Rebecca Simmonds

 

Rebecca is an Off-West End Award winning book writer & lyricist based in London. Her first musical, In Clay (written with Jack Miles), has transitioned from London’s Upstairs at the Gatehouse to the global stage. Following its prestigious selection for the NAMT Festival of New Musicals and Chinese premiere at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, the show recently made its US debuts at the Signature Theatre in Virginia and the Broadway Rose Theatre in Oregon.

In early 2026, Rebecca was one of three British writers invited to showcase work at the Toho Songwriters’ Showcase in Tokyo. This global trajectory continues with a 2026 return to Shanghai and upcoming productions spanning Europe, the US and South-East Asia.

 

Rebecca’s current commissions include The Comet Huntress (with Tim Gilvin), an operetta for If Opera debuting at the Bath and If Opera Festivals in 2027. Other active collaborations include TASTE (with Jack Miles), The Darklings (with Tim Gilvin) and Cleopatra (with Parisa Shahmir).
